The Zonta Club of Christchurch North wishes to thank the sponsors and donors of our Charity Golf Tournament held last Sunday at Kaiapoi Golf Club. It has been an unprecedented two years for the country, our city and our Club, with the tournament being postponed a couple of times since our last one in November 2020.
While the number of team entries this year was down, everyone playing thoroughly enjoyed the day. We started with a sponsored barbeque breakfast of sausages, bacon and onions on bread before tee off – the players were treated to chocolates, fruit and water on the 14th Tee during their round – and then all had a yummy hot meat sandwich with chips and coleslaw for lunch when they finished. All the golfers received a prize – some received extra for their efforts – best net score, longest drive, closest to the pin, and the most “honest” golfer. Lots of great raffle prizes were also won.
On Sunday, 27 March 2022 we are holding a Charity Golf Tournament at the Kaiapoi Golf Club to raise funds to support our National Charity Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) and our own Local Charities and Scholarships. We could not meet our goals without the support of people and businesses in the Canterbury area. We were overwhelmed last time by the generosity of people/businesses who sponsored holes and gave products/services to be used as prizes to enable us to provide much needed financial support to all our charities and scholarships.
Please contact Shirley-Anne Pearce on 021 1646425 or christchurchnorth@zonta.org.nz if you wish to sponsor a hole and/or enter a team of players. (See below for Golf Tournament Flyer)

GRG provides support services and caregiver education programmes to over 5,300 grandparent and whanau care families nationwide. This represents over 9,000 caregivers and an estimated 16,000 children in circumstances where they cannot be raised by their parents. Around a third of primary caregivers are sole parenting, struggling on an annual household income of less than $30,000. GRG’s vision and objectives are to empower grandparent care families with the vital support, information, advice, advocacy and education they need to help them achieve positive outcomes in their lives.
Zonta District 16 NZ provides funding to support GRG’s Simply Acquired & Learned Techniques™ for Grandparents (SALT) education programme. The programme provides practical insights and understanding of the impact of past trauma on children, who may also have troubling and challenging behaviour. Caregivers are taught effective parenting strategies that promote healing and a sense of stability and security. GRG envisions a community where grandparents raising grandchildren are empowered to provide a safe, secure and nurturing home for their grandchildren.
